After studying at Applied Arts in Nantes with a major in Graphic Design, Romain Diguet worked at the DDB advertising agency in Nantes. He also worked as an art director with the Elle & Lui agency in Quimper, which he says happily gave him the opportunity to “live the party agency life.” He has been a freelance art director and illustrator since 2009. Diguet has worked on various exciting projects in the context of a global design and illustration with both large agencies and smaller independent clients in France and abroad. His vision of design is minimalistic, sophisticated and colorful with a nod to mid-century modern design, and his illustrations are vibrant and youthful. He currently lives with his partner in the Morbihan region of Brittany.
What’s the story behind your poster?
This poster is simultaneously a nod to Milton Glaser’s famous “I Love NY” and the variations it has inspired (“I Love LA and SF,” and even “I Love Paris”). On one hand, it’s an exchange between French and American culture. On the other hand, if I used this message, I wanted to make it divert in some way from the original. I achieved this by using a bike wheel in place of a heart in the middle.
Après mes études d’Arts Appliqués pendant 3 ans à Nantes avec une spécialisation en Graphisme, un cours passage au sein de l’agence DDB à Nantes, je suis aujourd’hui Directeur Artistique et illustrateur indépendant, depuis 2009. Je collabore sur des projets très variés et passionnants, aussi bien avec de grandes agences qu’avec de plus petits clients en France et à l’étranger; que ce soit dans le cadre d’un design global ou pour l’illustration d’une partie de projet. Je travaille également en tant que Directeur Artistique avec l’agence Elle&Lui à Quimper depuis plus de 3 ans, ce qui m’offre également la possibilité de vivre en partie la vie d’agence. Ma vision du design est plutôt minimale, sophistiquée et colorée avec un faible pour la période mid century et le design retro modern, ainsi que l’illustration jeunesse. Je vis actuellement avec ma compagne dans le Morbihan, en Bretagne, depuis bientôt 5 ans.
Quelle est l’histoire de votre affiche ?
Cette affiche est à la fois un clin d’oeil au célèbre « I Love NY » de Milton Glaser et de ses nombreuses déclinaisons ( « I Love LA, SF, … et même I Love Paris !»). Car il s’agit d’un échange USA / France d’une part,et parce que j’ai voulu faire de ce message si exploité un détournement, en incluant une roue de vélo dans le coeur.

The exhibition will take place from April 2 to May 15 at Paris Rendez-Vous, the concept store of the City Hall of Paris. We’ll share previews of the posters created by French and American artists for this exhibit that celebrates exploring Paris by bike.
